5 of the Best Places to Get Engaged in Lancashire

Are you going to be proposing to your Lancashire lass or lad? Or thinking of proposing when you’re visiting our beautiful county? We love to see it.

Lancashire is a great place to propose marriage because there’s so much choice. Striking scenes and historical landmarks are dotted all over the Red Rose county, making it a splendid place to confess your all consuming, unwavering love for your special person.

When you’re considering proposing, you’re going to have a lot running through your mind. To take some of the pressure from your shoulders, we’re going to be talking you through 5 excellent engagement spots in Lancashire.

Morecambe Bay/Promenade

A Morecambe Bay proposal is devilishly romantic.

Morecambe Bay offers the most gorgeous sunsets at any time of the year. You can choose to propose on the promenade, or go down a little further to the Heysham cliffs where it’s quieter.

This would be a truly beautiful place for a Lancashire proposal. Plus, you can share a romantic chippy tea at the prom after they say yes. What’s more brilliantly Lancastrian than that?

Tip: Aim for a clear day with little wind.

The Singing Ringing Tree

Have you heard of the Singing Ringing Tree? You’ll find it in Burnley.

It’s a sound sculpture made by Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu. The sculpture itself is made of metal tubes, arranged to look like a tree. When the wind blows through the tubes, it creates a lovely melody.

The Singing Ringing Tree is in the Pennine hill range and from there you’ll get gorgeous views of Burnley and the surrounding countryside.

This would be a lovely place to ask that all-important question. But be aware that The Singing Ringing Tree does attract crowds, so you might want to go earlier or later in the day – unless you don’t mind an audience!

Northcote

Restaurant proposals aren’t for everyone, we get that. But if your partner might like more of a public display of affection, there’s no better restaurant to pop the question in than the award-winning Northcote.

Northcote sits right on the edge of the Ribble Valley in Blackburn. It’s a Michelin Star restaurant run by Lisa Goodwin-Allen and her team. The restaurant offers a phenomenal, changing menu and you can expect excellent food and service every time.

There’s also a luxury hotel at Northcote where you can treat your love to a romantic overnight stay.

Blackpool Tower

If you want to get engaged in Lancashire, this one really hits the mark.

An oldie but a goodie, pulling off a Blackpool Tower proposal could be epic. This iconic venue opened in 1894 and has since been a classic Lancashire landmark, perfect for the scene of a romantic gesture.

There are two ways you can go about this: outside or inside. Outside, you can have Blackpool Tower as a charming backdrop to your proposal. Inside, you can choose to ask your partner to marry you while sharing afternoon tea in the ballroom.

Tip: Blackpool Tower is also a great wedding venue. 😉

Lancaster Castle

Another historic building on our list, Lancaster Castle is a striking sight in the heart of Lancaster’s city centre.

Lancaster Castle (a.k.a. John O’Gaunt’s Castle) dates back to 79 AD and has had a fascinating history ever since, from being the home to the Pendle witch trials to being the birthplace of pilates (strange, we know!).

Above all, this is a picturesque building and would make a lovely place to propose. Especially if your partner is a culture vulture.

In 2019, Lancaster Castle was tastefully refurbished, and there’s now a café on-site, so you can fuel yourself up for the big day!
