6 Activities in Lancashire This Summer

Are you going to be coming to stay at Cleveleymere Lakeside Lodges this summer?

We’re lucky enough to call the central Lancashire countryside our home. Not only does that mean that you’ll get to experience the sights, sounds, (and sometimes smells!), of the some of the best outdoor spaces in the country, you’re also going to be perfectly placed to explore the Red Rose County!

Lancashire is a fantastic place to visit because there’s so much to see and do here. There are cities, quaint little market towns, rivers, coastlines, family activities, great nights out, and a whole lot more. (Psst! Click here to read our guide to visiting Lancashire!)

Today, we’re going to be looking at some of the best activities in Lancashire this summer. From festivals to art installations and even yoga with goats, we recommend checking out some of these summer events in Lancashire when you stay at Cleveleymere.

Calling Planet Earth, Lancaster Priory

This phenomenal attraction is going to make its way all around the world. And it will be spending 4 weeks in Lancaster city centre!

Lancaster’s iconic building, The Priory, will be home to the Calling Planet Earth attraction. This internally-lit, revolving artwork, known as GAIA (the personification of Earth in Greek mythology), is a depiction of how Earth looks from the moon.

This is a huge piece of art, coming in at a very impressive 7 metres in diameter alone. While that might seem big to us, it’s actually 1.8 million times smaller than the surface of the Earth! When you stand 211 metres away from it, you’ll get to see Earth as if you were standing on the moon.

Award-winning composer, Dan Jones, has created a soundtrack specially for this experience and there will be other musical accompaniments, as well.

You can book your tickets here and there will be low sensory sessions available, too!

Dates: 25th June – 17th July 2022

Address: Castle Hill, Lancaster, Lancashire, LA1 1YZ

Goat Yoga

Yep, you heard that right. Goat yoga.

This is a very zen day out. It’s a 40-minute Vinyasa-style yoga class where goats will roam around between you freely. You’ll be shown yoga positions to calm your mind and build up strength in your body.

After the class, you’ll get 20 minutes to do as your please – relax, stroke the goats, and take some photos with them.

Tickets to goat yoga are £13.79.

Date: 1st July 2022

Address: Mrs. Dowsons, Hawkshaw Farm, Longsight Road, Blackburn, Lancashire, BB2 7JA

Lytham Festival 2022

Lytham Festival is Lancashire’s biggest music festival. This year it’s bringing you a 10-night lineup!

There will be some huge names on the stages this year, including TLC, Diana Ross, Lewis Capaldi, Duran Duran, The Strokes, Simply Red, and a Craig Charles funk & soul DJ set.

You can get tickets for Lytham Festival 2022 here and find out more about the event here

Dates: 28th June – 10th July

Garstang Scarecrow Festival

This is a big event in the Garstang calendar!

Have you ever wanted to see more than 200 creative scarecrows in one place? This is the event for you.

Every year, Garstang is home to the locally-loved scarecrow festival. There’s a scarecrow trail that will take you through the town (which is just down the road from Cleveleymere). When you follow the trail, you’ll get to see the quirky scarecrows that have been made by local folk.

But the fun doesn’t just stop there. There’s also a raffle, food and drink stalls, a funfair, a mini zoo, live music, and face painting. This is a top-tier family day out in Lancashire and surplus money goes to local causes!

Dates: 1st – 3rd July 2022

Address: Garstang, Lancashire, PR3 1EF

After Dark Family Activity Day: Dragon Quest Adventure

Got the little ones in tow? After Dark’s family activity day could be a great option. The theme is Dragon Quest Adventure which couldn’t sound more epic and the quest takes around 2 hours to complete.

This interactive children’s event brings you the best of mystery, scavenger hunting, and treasure trails, and you’ll get to meet dragons along your journey!

The aim is… to save the day! Uncover clues and solve puzzles to find out who is plotting to steal the legendary Golden Dragon Egg…

It’s £8.00 per person (children and adults) and is suitable for little ones aged 4-11.

Dates: 6th August 2022

World Gravy Wrestling Championships

Looking for something to do in Lancashire on the August Bank Holiday? It’s a bit out there, we know, but the World Gravy Wrestling Championships are being held in Rossendale on that day!

This weird and wacky event is now in its 11th year and not only is this a great spectator sport, but you can also even sign up to be a wrestler if you’re over the age of 18 (limited spaces available).

Just like it says on the tin, the World Gravy Wrestling Championships involves wresting in a pool of Lancashire gravy! This isn’t a serious event – it’s all just for fun in the name of charity. Wrestlers win points for their fancy dress costume, their funny moves, and how much they can make the spectators laugh.

Date: 29th August 2022

Address: The Rose ‘N’ Bowl, 264 Newchurch Road, Rossendale, Lancashire, OL13 0UG
